Our Momentum, it is lacking...

We have taken to the Italian tendency for midday naps a little too well. This is perhaps because we are getting old. However, yesterday was full of epic adventures involving lugging heavy heavy bags through train stations, rather epicly. We were all so exhausted that a good nap in the middle of the day was needed. We finished our day by visiting the Roman Forum, if we could attach pictures there would be one of Sophie being Caesar and me stabbing her as well as Sophie being Marc Anthony and me being Cicero, perhaps on a Rostrum.

We are tired today because we spent the morning wandering around the Flavian Ampitheater, also known as the Coleseo. Tomorrow we will attempt the Villa Borghese, and this evening, if we ever end our naps, we will take a tour of some of the famous Baroque churches. At this point, I think we are all running out of steam and missing our own beds.

Cosimo di Medici is 4 metals up and no metals down!

The story of our trip.

Closed for restoration or otherwise missing: Donatello's David, Verrocchio's David, Rubens at the Uffizi, Rembrant at the Uffizi, the Four Rivers Fountain, the Scala Regia, Mantegna's Dead Christ, Trinita dei Monti on the Spanish Steps, the apse of Santa Croce, the cliffs of Orvieto, the Orvieto Duomo, and the Borgese Gallery (on the first try).

Four Wayfarers

Outside Santa Croce, which has a cenotaph to Dante on the inside which I am reasonably sure has some pointed remarks towards Ravenna about the location of Dante's bones on it.

Early morning at the Uffizi

Having recieved permission from the Commune of Florence to crenollate, Jess and I are crenollations outside the Uffizi.

P.S. We have not actually asked Florence yet about crenollating. I think they'll say yes, though.

A Day of Davids

We approve of Michelangelo's David, and also of sneaky photo-taking.

Today we also saw Donatello's David which was being restored and tried, but failed, to see to see Verrocchio's David because Mel didn't want us to go to Italian jail for sneaking into the closed section of the museum.

It's like we're in Florence or something.

We have internet!

in Florence at the Luna Rossa hostel, where we are now, which is awesome (both Firenze and the hostel. It's like a real place!) Wandered street markets. Jess is the best at bargaining because of her "I'm a Medici and I don't even care" face. This keyboard is weird. P.S. The story of this trip is us making stupid faces in front of historically important art/architecture, as in, "You're in Florence! How does that make you feel?"

Now to walk along the Arno, a river I hear is full of deceptive people, but if anyone asks Dante said that not me.

Hearts,
Sophie, who is not allowed to blog any more

Attempting my first text post. The hostel main room is the place to be but i am charging my camera batteries.

Perhaps We Need to Augment the Name for a Day

It is 1 for Italy currently as my compainions are stuck in the New York Airport because their flight to Rome was canceled. Luckily my mom got me this magical phone that works in europe because otherwise I would have been very confused! However, our hostel is wonderful. Youth Station Hostel in Rome, I highly recomend it if you are traveling this way. I wandered down to the Colloseum, Flavian Amphitheater, is its more correct name but hey, whos counting besides crazy architectural historians. Its big, its beautiful, and the fact that its still standing is a marvel to me. I wish I could post pictures but I haven't quite figured that one out yet. Tommorrow I pick my coconspirators up at the station and we should be able to rock and roll! I'm hoping for the Vatican.

Test

This test is needed to see if we can post directly to the blog from emails.

A Morning of Anticipation

This morning has been very full already and its only 11am, almost 4pm Italy time. Having realized this morning while cooking eggs that I didn't have a watch for the trip, I ran out to Target (my 7th time visiting said store for the purpose of buying things for the trip.) I am rather illiterate when it comes to watches though so I set the time for Italian time so that I won't have to change it when I get to Italy.

Jess and Sophie are ridding on a different plane than I, set to arrive in Rome an hour before me. Thus we have a tentative plan to meet at Rome Termini. Otherwise our adventures are pretty free flowing the next ten days. My need for organization tells me that not planning out where we are going to be all the time was a bad idea but, I'm rolling with it. If the text-posting works the I'll keep you all informed as to our journeys through Italy.

First Post in the USA

Here's the beginning of a wonderful journey, 10 days in Italy. We shall see what unfolds.
